Billed as the biggest Saamtrek in South African caravan history, the Jurgens Ci sixty-year birthday celebration also proved to be a sensationally enjoyable event. Spread over the weekend from September 7 to 9, 2012, at the Mpumalanga Badplaas Forever Resort, the Saamtrek was filled with entertainment by popular celebrities, activities for all and family fun.

The line-up of celebrity entertainers included Pieter Smith, Barbara Ray, Bobby Angel, Lance James, Sally Vaughn, Pieter Koen,Thys die Bosveldklong and Laurika Rauch andtemptedour caravanners from around the country to join in.

The Saamtrek got off to a terrific start on the Friday night with a braai and sing-along around the campfire with Pieter Smith. New friendships were made, new bonds forged, before close to 1 000 people drifted off into nearly 300 caravans for a good sleep in preparation for the next day.

The next day? Well, that was a daythat was! A Saturday filled with something for everyone of every age. The activities included golf, tennis, caravan towing and bowls competitions, water activities, super tubes for the kids as well as jumping castles, a colouring-in competition and face painting. Prizes galore were like welcome spring showers.

After a Sunday service held in the main arena, farewells were said by old and new friends, enthusiastic to meet up again – certainly long before Jurgens’ 70th!

This type of celebration was typical of Jurgens, which has always been a family-orientated organisation since Mr Geert (Oubaas) Jurgens came from the Netherlands to this country in 1952 and took the first steps to become the leader in our world of caravanning.And how far the company has come in the past 60 years, since the launch of “Bokkie”, the first Jurgens caravan made by the whole family, with cushion and curtains hand-made by Mrs Jurgens.

Today, Jurgens Ci is southern Africa’s largest manufacturer of caravans, motor homes and specialised conversions, with dealerships throughout South Africa and Namibia, and exports to Australia, New Zealand and the Netherlands. It’s exciting to know the whole world is open to this entrepreneurial family. May the next 60 years be equally rewarding.

In celebration of their 60th birthday, Jurgens, ‘King of the Great Outdoors’ hosted a three day Saamtrek filled with a memorable line-up of celebrity guest performances and fun activities.
